The Atlanta Dumpster/POD permit
Atlanta's Department of Transportation issues a Dumpster/POD Right-of-Way Permit, applied for through the city's online portal (apply4.com), for any container placed on the street or sidewalk.
Fees
The base fee is $20. On top of that comes a daily charge set by how much curb the container occupies:
- Up to 100 linear feet: $10 a day
- 101–200 feet: $15 a day
- 201–300 feet: $20 a day
- Over 300 feet: $25 a day
Our arithmetic: one roll-off uses far less than 100 feet, so seven days on the street costs $20 + 7 × $10 = $90.
Paperwork the city wants
- A certificate of liability insurance for $1 million per occurrence and $2 million aggregate, listing the City of Atlanta as certificate holder
- Notarized affidavits
- A compliance agreement signed by the dumpster company
- Barricades and cones, supplied by the applicant
Few homeowners carry that kind of policy. In practice the dumpster company pulls the permit and adds it to the bill, so ask for it as a separate line.
